Numbers 30:2 ESV    If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

Matthew 5:37 ESV   Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.

Here we are in a new year. New opportunities, new mercies and grace, new beginnings. In my Bible class we discussed New Year's resolutions.  Are you one who does that? Do you follow through and stay this course - all year long? Are you a person of your word or do you mean it at the time and then totally forget it?

As Christians, we must learn to be thoughtful (full of thought) before we speak or give a promise or a pledge to someone.  Our word should be our bond. Our word, and how we keep it, will speak volumes to others of who you really are - and if your walk with Christ is solid.  We expect others to keep their promises to us; we expect God the Father to keep His word, His promises to us. Why then are we so thoughtless in some of our promises and some of our pledges?  Take your word seriously; others do. Take your promises seriously, as if you are giving it to yourself - because you are!
Come on Christians, let us discipline ourselves to be people who honor God's Word without reservations and move in integrity in our promises to Him and to others.
Yes, sometimes things change that are out of control, but that is rare.
So, I am calling all of you up on this issue this year:  If you want God the Father to honor all His promises to you, be faithful and honor all your promises to Him and to others!
Be a man or woman of your word!    Amen!
